Are All Children the Future? Caring for Oregon's At-Risk Youth

Plus Beeman Challenge Recognition
Dennis Morrow, executive director, Janus Youth Programs
Date:
March 19, 2010 - 12:00pm - 1:15pm
Speaker(s):
Dennis Morrow, executive director, Janus Youth Programs

The needs of teen parents and their infants, young adults in juvenile custody and homeless street youth go too often ignored or unseen by the communities they live in. Though Portland is lucky to have one of the strongest social service networks in the country, it still struggles to serve its at-risk youth.

On March 19, Dennis Morrow will discuss the status of homeless youth and other vulnerable young populations in Portland, the challenges of creating effective delivery systems for them and the miracles that a committed and caring community can achieve. He will also address why gangs are sometimes more effective in looking  after their members than youth assistance and treatment programs.

As executive director of Janus Youth Program, Dennis Morrow sees his job as giving voice to Portland’s vulnerable youth. Janus provides daily services to more than 600 extremely high risk children, teens and young adults in programs throughout the Pacific Northwest.

City Club will recognize Beeman Challenge donors from 12:00 PM - 12:15 PM.
