Jimmy Mak’s, 221 NW 10th Ave. in the Pearl

For three decades, Dan Wieden has seeded a series of revolutions, some small, some large. Best known for guiding his advertising firm, Wieden+Kennedy to being one of the nation's top creative firms in the ad business (and one of the largest remaining independent ones), Wieden founded Caldera, a Cascade Mountains arts/environmental retreat for both under-served youth and the region's top professional artists. As well, Wieden and his firm have helped shape the world's perception of Oregon and Oregon's perception of itself with two major branding campaigns: "Oregon: Things look different here" and "Oregon. We love dreamers."

At Bright Lights, Wieden will speak about the next phase of Caldera, his work to bring leading thinkers of the world to Oregon, and how the next governor might better communicate what Oregon is today-or needs to be-both abroad and to its own citizens.

The Bright Lights city design discussion series is presented by Portland Monthly magazine and the City Club of Portland with support from the Architecture Foundation of Oregon.
