The future of our economy depends on a well-educated workforce to create and fill the jobs of the 21st century. But here in Oregon, class sizes are growing, teachers have fewer classroom resources, arts education is being cut, and extra-curricular activities are limited or have been eliminated. Federal policy has created incentives to teach to the test, and schools that do not meet rigid testing standards are penalized. Meanwhile, public funding for higher education has been cut and the cost of college has grown by 500 percent since 1986.
