Holiday Show: Showcasing the Value of Music

It’s the holiday season, which means it’s time for our Annual Holiday Show. This year we are pleased to welcome the internationally recognized Portland State Chamber Choir. We hope to spark a discussion about the future of music and music education, while we listen to classical selections by Monteverdi and Rachmaninoff, modern masterworks by Whitacre and Esenvalds, pop songs, Haitian Voodoo Music, and Holiday selections. The program will also include selections from their newly-released album "A Drop in the Ocean," which has received broad acclaim throughout the US Choral Community.
The conductor for the Chamber Choir is Dr. Ethan Sperry, the Director of Choral Activities at Portland State University. The Portland State Chamber Choir was founded in 1976. Since that time the choir has performed at many prestigious venues, touring internationally and singing in the United States by invitation at National Conventions for the Music Educators National Conference, the American Choral Directors Association, and The Society of International Music Educators. This year the Chamber Choir became the first American Choir since 2007 to be selected to compete in the International Grand Prix for choirs in St. Petersburg, Russia.
There will be a no-host bar at this Forum to enliven the holiday experience.
