Metro Council President Debate
In the November election, two qualified candidates with very different viewpoints will vie for the position of Metro Council President.
On October 1, City Club welcomes Tom Hughes and Bob Stacey, candidates for Metro Council President. The candidates will debate the recent adoption of urban and rural reserves, the future of Metro’s role in regional transportation planning and the broader responsibilities of Metro and its position within the region.
Tom Hughes served as Mayor of Hillsboro between 2001- 2008. During his time in office, he chaired the Metro Policy Advisory Committee and helped to attract businesses to Oregon including SolarWorld, the Pacific University Health Professions Campus, the Intel development facility and a Genetech facility. Bob Stacey worked for seven years as executive director of 1000 Friends of Oregon, and previously served as chief of staff to Congressman Earl Blumenauer, pursuing improved environmental and community impacts in federal agency programs related to transportation and urban development.
