Caring for Oregonians in Crisis
With the economic slump, Oregon’s human service sectors can no longer afford “business as usual.” Finding creative and effective ways to serve more people with fewer dollars is an ongoing struggle.
Governor Kitzhaber declared that the state must shift priorities from addressing problems after they have developed to preventing them in the first place. His budget, released in February, reflects this view. But how will this reprioritization play out in real life? What are the new and innovative ways to deliver corrections and human services? Can we ensure that Oregonians receive equal or greater value for each tax dollar? How will these changes impact the future of our state?
On May 20, City Club welcomes Ben DeHaan, director of the Oregon Department of Corrections; Erinn Kelley-Siel, director of the Oregon Department of Human Services; and Lynne Saxton, CEO of ChristieCare. All three speakers will attempt to answer these challenging questions.
