City Club Hosts
"Changing
Landscapes"
Art Show
During the month of May, City Club Commons ( 901 SW Washington
St. ) will host an art show of political prints from the Justseeds
collective (www.justseeds.org).
Founded in 1997, Justseeds has become a crucial resource for artists
and activists throughout the U.S.
The
show, entitled "Changing Landscapes," exhibits all 40
posters released from Justseeds' People's History Poster Series,
plus prints from local printmakers associated with the group,
including work by Bec Young, Lydia Crumbley, Chris Strickland,
Icky A. and Visual Resistance.
The
poster series, each designed by a different artist, are printed
at local printshop Stumptown Printers and highlight the accomplishments
of under-acknowledged activists in U.S. history, including Paul
Robeson, Dr. Marie Equi, Judi Bari and many more. Justseeds' posters
have appeared in classrooms, on the streets and in art galleries
around the world, in addition to providing an income for artists
not usually paid for their work in political movements.
Join
artists from Justseeds at the opening reception, Thursday, May
3 at 6:30 PM for a discussion on their work. The opening will
coincide with the First Thursday art walk. RSVP not required.
