Blazing Through One Year on the Job
Just over one year ago, Chris McGowan was introduced as President and CEO of the Trail Blazers, one of Portland’s most nationally-visible icons. He moved here from Los Angles where he was Chief Operating Officer of AEG Sports, a company that runs a number of sports teams and venues -- including the reigning Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings and reigning MLS Cup winners, the Los Angeles Galaxy. Upon McGowan’s arrival, he set into motion several results-based initiatives to increase overall revenue; fine tune business operations; identify new ways to interact with the fan base; and rejuvenate the Rose Quarter campus. One year later, he has quite the list of accomplishments.
McGowan orchestrated an arena naming rights deal with Moda Health – something that has been talked about since 2007. He brought some of Portland’s favorite local food vendors inside the arena; hired a business analytics staff to help the company make more data-driven decisions; oversaw the re-launch of the team website and mobile app; and created a more linear, nimble business operations staff.
