City Club recently hosted a panel discussion on the 2024 elections. Political ops from both sides of the aisle discussed Portland’s new, more diverse City Council, the Congressional race that elected Oregon’s first Black Congresswoman, and how Democrat and Republican wins differed at the local, state, and federal levels.
This winter, City Club of Portland will host a four-program series: Meet Your New City Councilors! The series is free and open to the public. Each program will be held in person at a venue within the featured district and include both a moderated conversation and informal social time with the Councilors.

Over 30 City Club members attended our December Welcome Event, where Jim Westwood and Steve Griffith facilitated a discussion on youth civic engagement in Oregon, focusing on high school Constitution Teams and the state’s new Civics education requirement for the Class of 2026.
Our Built Environment Issue Committee recently co-hosted a community event with the Architecture Foundation of Oregon to explore how middle-scale housing can address Portland’s housing challenges while preserving the character of established neighborhoods.
City Club members and the community gathered on November 13 to celebrate the civic engagement surrounding Portland’s first ranked-choice voting elections. We reflected on the active participation of community members, candidates, and voters who shared information about the new voting system to help ensure a successful election season.
