About the Event
City Club’s New Leaders Council and Arts and Culture Committee are proud to be a part of Portland’s 27th annual Soapbox Derby! A beloved neighborhood tradition for nearly three decades, this event highlights our great city’s crafts, arts, creativity, and spirited competition. The Soapbox Derby turns Mount Tabor Park into a gathering space and hotspot.
The derby starts at 10 am, but City Club will meet up at Bipartisan Cafe at 9 am and walk to Mt. Tabor at 9:30 am to find a spot to watch the fun. Pack for a relaxed day in the sun at one of our city’s most iconic parks—consider bringing sunscreen, a lawn chair or blanket, and snacks/drinks (or plan to grab something from the Cafe before we walk over together).
City Club of Portland invites anyone interested in getting more involved in civic life—and making friends along the way—to join its monthly New Leaders gathering geared toward those in their 20s, 30s, and 40s (although anyone is welcome). Whether you’re a seasoned activist, advocate, or organizer, or someone looking to get involved for the first time, these gatherings offer opportunities to hear different perspectives, connect with peers, and learn about the many ways people are engaging in Portland’s civic life, from policy advocacy to community-based work.
