The Annual Meeting is a celebration of what members achieved together over the past year. We honor members who made significant contributions, hear what the Board has in mind for the year ahead, and share our own ideas for the future direction of City Club.
The Burnside Bridge turns 100 this year, and Multnomah County is marking the occasion with a once-in-a-lifetime community celebration. The event will recognize the bridge’s long history and the deep connection Portlanders have to it. Attendees can enjoy kid-focused activities, interactive exhibits, and storytelling that highlights moments of celebration, community life, and social and political unrest that have unfolded on and around the Burnside Bridge.
City Club’s New Leaders Council hosts a monthly happy hour for people in their 20s to 40s who want to get more involved in civic life. These gatherings are part program, part social, and all fun, with time to meet new people, make new connections, and learn something new that supports your leadership development. This month, we’ll have a group conversation about how to better fund schools and education programs.
There never seems to be enough time to chat with our City Club friends, and there are always new people to meet. Join us for this social gathering, where we’ll enjoy a warm meal and good conversation with fellow members. There’s no agenda except to enjoy each other’s company. Oregon K-12 students receive nearly the lowest instructional hours of any students in the nation, with a short school year, a short school day, huge variances in instructional time from district to district and high rates of chronic absenteeism. Our expert panel will discuss what it will take to fix K-12 education in Oregon and provide Oregon students with an education comparable to other states.
Join City Club’s Arts and Culture Committee for a Juneteenth celebration connected to the BLACK MATTER Salon exhibition at Blackfish Gallery. This event is made possible by generous donations from City Club members. The evening begins with an artists' panel discussion at Blackfish from 5:30–7:00 PM, followed by a reception at Studio 516.
Join City Club for a conversation with Sue Porter, one of the nation’s leading end-of-life advocates, about the development and evolution of Oregon’s landmark Death With Dignity Act. Oregon was the world’s first government to create a medically supportive path for terminally ill patients to choose how and when they die.
Oregon is at an economic crossroads, with several paths state leaders can take to support statewide vitality. With the Governor’s Prosperity Council report expected to be released a few weeks before the program, this topic will be front and center with sharply different responses on the best direction forward.will discuss their views of the fundamentals of Oregon’s economy and both the difficulties and opportunities for our shared future.
