Here are current opportunities for you to take a leading role in shaping our initiatives.
Research Study Committees
The Research Board is gearing up for an exciting year, with a focus on launching a comprehensive research study and three ballot measure studies. We’re actively seeking dedicated members to join study committees.
Serving on a research committee is a significant commitment, but the rewards are equally significant, including opportunities to gain a deep understanding of complex issues, interact with key stakeholders and decision-makers, and actively influence public policy.
Comprehensive studies involve 8–12 months of focused interviews, independent research, weekly discussions, and continual critical analysis. Ballot measure studies typically take 4 months.
Programming Committee
The Programming Committee plans to produce 1-2 events monthly, excluding July and August, with a mixture of in-person, hybrid, and virtual formats.
They seek members who are interested in originating, discussing, and producing events in consultation with the Chair and serve as resource/collaborators for other committee producers. Responsibilities include identifying speakers, moderators, and sponsors, drafting topic outlines and run of show documentation, and supporting marketing and communications.
Interested members must be available to meet twice a month, virtually or in-person.
Issue Committees
Issue Committees are back at City Club! Issue committees are informal groups of City Club members who come together because they share a common interest. These groups meet to explore and create programs related to their shared topic. Issue committees have been part of the City Club of Portland for decades, and have generated a range of activities, from large speeches to intimate gatherings, expert panel discussions, site tours, and social events like food and wine tastings, art and music.
Based on interests identified from a recent member survey, we’re starting with the following groups: The Built Environment, Health & Public Safety, Education & The Arts. Explore detailed descriptions here.
Membership Committee
The Membership Committee serves as the steward of the member experience. It is actively seeking individuals who are passionate about growing and connecting our community. We invite those with excellent communication skills, a deep understanding of City Club’s work and mission, and creative ideas about the value of membership to join our efforts. Help us connect with potential members through phone calls, outreach initiatives, and member engagement activities. If you like talking with people about City Club and have time and ideas about what club membership means and can be, they hope to hear from you.
