City Club’s Program Committee invites you to a conversation with Oregon State Treasurer Elizabeth Steiner, in discussion with former State Treasurer Randall Edwards, who served two terms from 2001-2009. They will explore the Treasurer’s role in managing the state’s investments, banking, and debt programs, her initiatives to help Oregonians save for retirement, and her perspective on opportunities and challenges facing Oregon’s finances.

About the Speakers

Treasurer Elizabeth Steiner

Elizabeth Steiner is the first woman and first physician to hold the office of State Treasurer. Prior to being elected Treasurer, she served in the State Senate for thirteen years and as Co-Chair of the Joint Committee on Ways & Means for six years. Her legislative policy work focused on public health including raising the legal age for tobacco & e-cigarettes to 21 and creating the nation’s first universally-offered home visiting program for families with new babies. She is an adjunct associate professor of family medicine at OHSU and a past president of the Oregon Academy of Family Physicians.

Randall Edwards

Perhaps best known as the Oregon State Treasurer who created the Oregon College Savings Plan, Randall built a national reputation for innovative financial solutions that addressed challenges facing the state and Oregonians. As a Legislator and Treasurer, Randall developed policies that helped families save for college, leveraged the state’s credit rating to save taxpayers’ money, utilized the state’s bonding authority to accelerate economic development and cutting-edge programs like OHSU’s R&D center, and worked with other financial institutions to address climate change nationally.
